polaris RZR 800 issue

I'm checking my friend's polaris RZR, it got this little shimmy and a worrying noise that kicks in around 30 mph. feels like a shaft issue, you know?

This is on smooth pavement in 2WD. While poking around trying to figure things out, I noticed this play in the front axle. Is that a normal state of affairs? Could that be the source of the troubles?

Can I just yank out the whole driveshaft from the back all the way to the front diff and then just ride in 2WD?

Just trying to see if that would nip that troublesome sound in the bud. What do you think guys?

A bit of rotational play in the front axles is normal on RZRs, but excessive up/down or in/out movement could definitely point to worn diff bearings or internal problems, and yes, that could absolutely be the source of your troubles.

and to answer your question: yes, you can temporarily remove the front driveshaft and ride in 2WD. It's a common trick that If the noise stops, you'll know the problem is in the front driveline

I think a little play in the axle is completely normal, but if there's too much movement, it could mean that the differential bearings are wearing out. To pinpoint any noise problems, take off the front driveshaft.
